Im talking all lanes of traffic backed up, brave cyclysist in the middle of the street, as if they own the place (oh wait they do, they have a designated bike lane in the middle of rush hour..they are kings during rush hour). Im 5 mins late to happy hour at Old Glory in G-town (geroge town for you lames that don't know the slang terms for highend neighborhoods in DC) and I see a my savior, a sign above an empty parking spot on the street that reads: "Pay by Phone".
Now me being the gadget geek that I am, I stopped in the middle of the lane an parallel parked like it was my job. DC has this relatively new service that allows patrons to park their cars at meters and have the luxury of not having to scrumage around for loose change, but the option to pay via the net for parking! Right then and there I enabled my Verizon MiFi hotspot (1) and used my newly downloaded app for voice recognition (2) cleverly called VLingo to look up information on this new development. evidently there is a new parking payment app on of iphone that simply need to be downloaded (at 4g speeds, thanks Verizon) that would let me pay for parking via credit card on the spot! Can I just say that this is legit! All you have to do is signup, enter your cc info, licence plate and email address and you are on your way to parking anywhere hassle free, with the ability to get text updates if you are coming close to the end of your time. genius! You never over pay because you only extend for as long as you need to, and you never under pay because the app tells you exactly when you need to update payment! I was floored with this new technology, and you should be too. Its a free app for droid and iphone, and it is a must download. 6 thumbs up from me, enjoy
